The INTERVENTIONS section informs about the steps taken after receiving of the report on the abuse of legislation – destruction or potential danger of Natura 2000 habitat and/or species. After confirmation of the reports by our staff, we apply to appropriate officials asking them to intervene. The whole process is summarized as it goes from the documenting of the abuse, action of the Guards and the consequent outcomes.

As a result of the intervention, it was possible to stop the habitat and species degradation process. It was even more important taking into account that according to the independent opinion, the degraded habitats have a chance for total recovery, assuming quick repair actions and stopping further damage). Despite ploughing stronger species still grow on the destroyed fragment of the plot.

Conclusions, recommendations: As a result of the undertaken intervention, it was possible to avoid substantial damage to natural environment, thanks to changes in river regulation methods, implementing preventive measures and environmental monitoring. Important role played the Marshall Office of the dolnośląskie Voivodship, the implementing organization for the Regional Operational Programme, the core financial source of funding of the works. It is worthwhile to promote the described case between the institutions responsible for the investments in water management and those managing structural funds, especially at the regional level.

Ca. 2 ha of the meadows, the site near Duczów Mały is the richest of three sites in the Voivodship for B. lunaria, one of six sites for G. pneunomonthe and one of richer for O. vulgatum.

The 32 wind turbines of 1,5-3 MW – 105 m high with the 90 m diameter rotors (impellers) are planned in the Borough of Udanin by the EWG Udanin Ltd. The EIA is improper due to the lack of required data on birds and bats despite the detailed recommendations.

The exact size of the damaged area unknown, logging took place in smaller plots connected by straps of forest with fallen trees. According to the observer’s estimation, 3-4 hectares in the 10 hectare forest section which lost its integrity.

Burnt dry grassland patch unique in the area with very valuable and characteristic for this habitat plants, has been observed. Some areas with torn out (pull out) turf suggest that additional agricultural treatment was carried out (for instance harrowing).

The Report on environmental impact for the investment in question proposed two variants – West and East option. The Western option does not disturb Natura 2000 sites, while the Eastern option enchroaches upon two Natura 2000 sites: PLB Grądy odrzańskie and PLH Grądy w Dolinie Odry.

The 6510 habitat patch of ca. 1,5 ha was ploughed for unknown reason. Protected species of the Globe flower Trollius europaeus and Autumn crocus Colchicum autumnale were found in May 2009 on the ploughed land. On the neighbouring meadows both species observed in abundance.

In Winter 2008/2009 Forestry Unit Nadleśnictwo Żmigród removed all trees along the road and ditch (a dozen metres stripe) inside the Natura 2000 site. About 266 trees of different size including old oaks (ca.170) were cut down, almost all stumps proving good condition of the trees. The reason indicated by the Forestry Unit was that one dead tree fell on a passing car.

Shaft of the mines has been filled up with tree roots and earth. It blocked the entrance to part of the corridors, disenabling use of more than half of the corridors by bats. The microclimate of the mine system has changed.
